New Orleans Hornets

New Orleans Hornets fans haven't had many days like this in 2012. Friday the 13th was good luck for the Hornets as Saints owner Tom Benson bought the team. Then the day got even better when New Orleans defeated the Utah Jazz. Take a look back at the Hornets' best day of 2012.

Tom Benson

As discussed in an article I wrote earlier today, Tom Benson becoming Hornets' owner serves a very important purpose. Finally, the Hornets' focus is no longer on staying in New Orleans. Now they can focus on something much more important. Tom Benson will shift the Hornets' focus on bringing another championship to New Orleans.

Utah Jazz

The irony of Benson purchasing the Hornets today is that the team was squaring off against the franchise that left New Orleans in 1979. The Jazz came into New Orleans with a 31-28 record and fighting to make its way into the Western Conference Playoffs. I also get sentimental when I see the Jazz' uniforms.

Jefferson and Millsap

Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap were on fire for the Jazz. Between them, the Jazz big men scored 46 of Utah's 85 points. As impressive as they were, I honestly felt like their strong play discouraged other Jazz players from getting involved. The Jazz certainly didn't seem motivated to play defense most of the night.

Eric Gordon

Watching the extreme athleticism and talent of Eric Gordon makes me wonder what 2012 could have been like in New Orleans had he been healthy. While the Hornets have a roster filled with hard-working role players, Eric Gordon is the kind of player who's a difference maker. Gordon was on fire for the Hornets late as he scored 25 points.

Fourth quarter

The fourth quarter was a blast. It started with New Orleans picking up two technical fouls. But this only seemed to motivate the Hornets and energize the crowd. For a change, the Hornets used a late 13-0 run to put the Jazz away.

New Orleans fans haven't had many days like this in 2012 so we're going to enjoy our best day of the year!

Patrick Michael was born in New Orleans and currently resides in the Big Easy. A loyal New Orleans NBA fan, Patrick was a diehard New Orleans Jazz fan and now cheers for the Hornets. Patrick was in the New Orleans Arena the night the Hornets were one win away from the Western Conference Finals.
