The Wizards are attempting to win three games in a row for the first time this season as they take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. They have lost the first two games against the Knicks this season. Carmelo Anthony made the decisive three-pointer in a 99-96 victory on Jan. 6, then Jeremy Lin brought Linsanity to Verizon Center in a 107-93 victory a month later.
The Knicks – still fighting for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference – are in their latest incarnation with a new coach in Mike Woodson and both Lin and Amare Stoudemire out with injury. Anthony is averaging 32.4 points in April and is playing at power forward. Chris Singleton will start against Anthony, but Coach Randy Wittman said he won't be the only player to tussle with the all-star.
"We're going to have a lot of different guys taking turns at guarding him. A lot goes though him, with Amare out and Lin out. We recognize that and have that understanding," Wittman said. "He's playing at a high level."
If Kevin Seraphin scores 10 points against the Knicks, he would become the first Washington center since Gheorge Muresan in March 1997 to score 10 points in eight consecutive starts. John Wall is averaging 25.5 points and 7.5 assists in two games against New York this season. He will debut his new special gold Reebok sneakers in the game.
