Giants running back Andre Brown, who was on the team's practice squad last season, has been suspended four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

The NFL announced the suspension Friday. Brown is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.

Brown was on the Giants' practice squad last season and did not play. He was originally drafted by New York in 2008 in the fourth round out of North Carolina State.

In 2010, he was with Carolina, Denver, Indianapolis and Washington, but was active for only four games.

The Giants signed him to the practice squad before the 2011 season.
