From the latest news section of the 2012 Dubai World Cup website, there is a wealth of behind the scenes information following the $10 million dollar horse racing event of the year. Some of the first quotes concluding the event involved those from the Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed. His horse Monterosso, "won the Group 1 $US10 million World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline at Meydan," on March 31, 2012.

There are also quotes from Monterosso's jockey, Mickael Barzalona, highlights from the races, the crowd, and the celebrity performances. In spite of this wide range, no media can currently be found online in any language of trainer Mahmood Al-Zarooni about the results of the 2012 Dubai World Cup.

2012 Dubai World Cup winner quotes from the Sheikh

@7DaysUAE posted a photo on Twitter of His Highness holding the winning gold trophy. On his Facebook page, His Highness posted on March 31, 2012, "Excited about the victory of Monterosso in Dubai World Cup … We present this victory to all people in UAE & to all those who love to be no. 1 … Dubai World Cup has become a leader in the horse racing world … The level of international participation was unprecedented."

Dubai Gold Cup fatalities cause race re-run

Sadly, UPI.com reports from the preceding Dubai Gold Cup sponsored by Al Tayer Motors say two of His Highness' horses from Godolphin were injured. Earlier that day, Fox Hunt collapsed during the first Dubai Gold Cup race causing it to be canceled and run again later. The shocking footage from the first race is disturbing to watch.

Replays from the DubaiRacingMeydan YouTube page of the second Dubai Gold Cup show no fatalities, but Grand Vent and Bronze Cannon did drop from the race. Sports Illustrated reports that Fox Hunt's jockey, Silvestre De Sousa, was not injured.

Surreal win for Barzalona

"This is a dream. I have no words to describe what I feel right now," said jockey Mickael Barzalona in TimeOutDubai.com about his win with Monterosso. This 20-year-old French native also won the Epsom Derby in 2011 and news writers say that, "He will soon join the Godolphin stable at Newmarket in England as a retained jockey."

Unfortunately, Barzalona's reaction to winning did not go so well. @BrettPresents wrote on Twitter that, " Mickael Barzalona picked up a 5000 Dirham fine for 'celebrations' in the run up to the line after winning the $10 million DWC!"

Footage of the winning moment

Indeed, without giving a spoiler alert, it can be said that most horses win by a nose, but this is the opposite of what happened at this race. According to ThoroughbredTimes.com, "With the $6-million winner's purse, Monterosso increased his earnings to $7,403,790, with seven wins."

Other interesting notes about the race conclusion come from @Greg_Wood, Racing Correspondent for The Guardian, who tweets, "Not sure if I've done this one already, but in two runnings of #DWC at #meydan, no horse at single-figure odds has even made the frame."

Opening ceremonies, Style Stakes hats, Toni Braxton

Throughout the week, performers like Malika Omar have been posting to Twitter. Omar posts from her @LittlePianoDiva Twitter account with, "What an INSANELY fun day @DWC_Meydan Dubai World Cup! 1 of my most memorable gigs!"

To start off the excitement, 2012 Dubai World Cup opened with a stunning fireworks show complete with video screens mimicking the glow-stick adorned dancers. Concluding the race, live footage was captured by a fan at the Toni Braxton closing ceremony. As this famous singer crooned, the enthusiastic audience sang along with her creating several amazing moments.

Others are posting the photo results from AhlanLive.com of the three new categories at the 2012 Jaguar Dubai Style Stakes. This includes Best Hat and the outrageous horse and skyscraper creations in the Most Creative Hat category. Emirate247.com posted photos of Longines Swiss watch makers awarding the Most Elegant Lady. Some of the winners received a 2012 Jaguar XK convertible.
