MILWAUKEE -- J.R. Smith hit a three-pointer for the lead with 1:04 left, and the New York Knicks held on to beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 111-107, on Wednesday night in a game that could turn out to be crucial to both teams' playoff hopes.
The Knicks took a two-game lead on the Bucks for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Denver 113, Minnesota 107: Ty Lawson scored 24 points, including four free throws in the final 17.6 seconds, for the host Nuggets, who were without Kevin Love. He left during the first quarter with a mild concussion.
New Orleans 105, Sacramento 96: Jason Smith scored 22 points, hitting 10 of 12 shots, to lead the host Hornets.
L.A. Lakers 98, San Antonio 84: Andrew Bynum scored 16 points and grabbed 30 rebounds, the most in an NBA game this season, for the visiting Lakers.

L.A. Clippers 100, Oklahoma City 98: Chris Paul scored 31 points, including the winning shot on a lay-up with 8.8 seconds left, for the visiting Clippers.
Boston 88, Atlanta 86: Paul Pierce overcame a miserable shooting game with a key jumper in overtime for the host Celtics.
Philadelphia 93, Toronto 75: Thaddeus Young scored 17 points and Nikola Vucevic 12 for the visiting 76ers, who hold the seventh seed in the East.
Indiana 104, Cleveland 98 (OT): Danny Granger scored 23 points, five in overtime for the visiting Pacers.
Utah 103, Houston 91: Gordan Hayward scored a season-high 29 points for the visiting Jazz.
