Wizards at Pistons: Game 55 discussion thread - Washington Post (blog)
Apr 5th 2012, 23:20

The Wizards play the second of three games in three nights today in Detroit. Last night Washington appeared to be worn out in a 109-96 loss to the Indiana Pacers. It has split the season series with the Pistons, with both teams winning on their opponents' floor. Detroit won last week as Rodney Stuckey buried the game-winning jumper with two-tenths of a second remaining.

This afternoon, the Wizards signed James Singleton to a 10-day contract. With Nene and Trevor Booker out with injuries to their left feet and Rashard Lewis and Andray Blatche both not traveling with the team as they recover from other injuries, the Wizards were limited to just three big men.

Nene got some shots up before the game, but Coach Randy Wittman said Nene and Booker are both out against Detroit and unlikely to be available on Friday in New Jersey. "Still kind of day-to-day on those guys."

The Wizards have given up more than 100 points in their past two games after limiting their opponents to an average of 90.2 points in the first 11 games after the trade. "When you lose your center and your power forward, you lose a lot of your defensive presence," Wittman said. "You're going to take a hit there a little bit. We're playing a little small bal, which puts you behind the eight ball some. But they've been competing and playing hard and giving themselves an opportunity."

Veteran forward Brain Cook has been getting more comfortable with extended minutes and had season-highs of 10 points and nine rebounds against the Pacers. Singleton is just getting adjusted after arriving from China earlier this week. He got the phone call that the Wizards wanted him while he was home in Dallas.
