In one of the main events of WrestleMania 28, Chris Jericho went after the WWE Championship held by CM Punk. In recent weeks, Jericho has made things personal by bringing up the drug and alcohol problems in the family of Punk that has influenced his straight-edge lifestyle. These two men have had several confrontations in recent weeks, with Jericho usually being left as the man standing above Punk.

Prior to the match, John Laurinaitis told Punk that he would lose the WWE Championship if he lets his rage get the best of him and gets disqualified. Not only will the winner of this match walk out with the WWE Championship, they will be able to say they are the Best in the World.

In the early going, Jericho attempted to get under the skin of Punk by slapping him and asking about his father and sister. Punk grabbed a chair and resisted the urge to hit Jericho with the weapon. As Punk attempted to attack Jericho, he was knocked down and repeatedly beaten down.

After Jericho stayed on the offense for a while, Punk bounced back and gained the edge. He landed his flying knee, but was unable to hit the bulldog. Jericho went for the Lion Sault, but Punk countered with his knees. Jericho caught his legs went for the Walls of Jericho, but Punk quickly countered. Punk went for the flying elbow from the top rope, but Jericho countered and hit the Code Breaker, sending Punk to the floor.

Jericho went to the floor and rolled Punk back in the ring and was met with a GTS. Punk went for the pin, but Jericho put his foot on the rope before the three.

The match made it to the top rope where Punk went for a Hurrican-rana, but Jericho caught him and locked in the Walls of Jericho. Jericho locked the submission move in tight, but Punk was able to crawl to the ropes. Once back to their feet, Punk sent Jericho to the floor and followed it up with a dive through the ropes, laying both men out temporarily. Punk sent Jericho into the ring and attempted a Spring Board Clothesline, but was caught with a flying Code Breaker. Jericho covered, but Punk kicked out.

Punk attempted to land the GTS multiple times, but Jericho countered each time and continued to attack the WWE Champion. Jericho went to the top, but Punk caught him and picked him up for the GTS. Jericho caught the knee of Punk and again locked in the Walls of Jericho. Punk countered the submission and eventually locked in the Anaconda Vise. Jericho then worked his way out and attempted the Walls of Jericho again, but Punk countered with the Anaconda Vise again and forced Jericho to tap.
