The Philadelphia Union finally managed to break the team's three game losing streak with a tie against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, March 31, 2012. The Whitecaps traveled to PPL Park Stadium to play the Union. This would be the only match between the two teams this season. The Whitecaps were at the top of the Western Conference, while the Union were at the bottom of the Eastern Conference after losing three straight games to kick off the 2012 season.

The Vancouver Whitecaps were not able to overcome the Philadelphia Union's defense. This was to be the only game against the Whitecaps and former Union player Sebastien Le Toux that the Union was to play this season. Sebastien Le Toux had been a Union player until he was suddenly traded just before the start of the 2012 season. Although he is generally a talented striker, he was not able to break through the Union defense to get the Whitecaps on the board.

Though the team didn't win, the Union did put up a pretty good fight. It was a tough game where both sides had missed opportunities and good defensive moves at times. Though a win would have been nice, the team managing to take a draw is quite an accomplishment given the rocky start to the season. The team finally broke a losing streak that had been up to three games.

Chandler Hoffman made his first regular season appearance. Hoffman, a Generation Adidas player who was selected by the Union in the MLS SuperDraft, was a starter for the match and he ended up playing the entire first half and some of the second half. He did a good job for his first appearance.

As a fan, I was happy to see the team doing a respectable job playing. I was, however, disappointed in several aspects of the game. The refereeing was questionable at times and I thought that there were some calls against the Union that should have been different. The offense for the Union could've done a better job. Though the defensive players held their own, the offense still hasn't found their rhythm.

Kristin Watt lives in central Pennsylvania and has no local major league sporting teams in the area .She has chosen to adopt Philadelphia's teams, including the Philadelphia Union, as her own home teams. Philadelphia is close enough to make a daytrip out of a game and still not have to get a hotel room.
