Prior to his addition to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Alistair Overeem's alleged drug history has often overshadowed his in-cage success. When he retired Brock Lesnar in his UFC debut, many people felt that he was finally ready to prove that his name deserved to be mentioned with the best in the sport. While he was at his best in the Lesnar fight, he was only allowed to fight after being issued a conditional license.

A couple weeks ago, after a press conference, Overeem was one of several fighters competing at UFC 146 to get tested and with the results now back, his UFC heavyweight title fight with Junior Dos Santos could be off. Overeem's testosterone-epitestosterone level was more than 10-1, while the normal level is 1-1. The commission would have allowed 6-1. According to the AP, Dana White is said to be "beyond pissed" at the news, considering Overeem told him he was clean.

With the chances of Overeem getting licensed for the title fight slim at this point, who could the UFC replace him with?

Frank Mir

Mir is the most obvious of choices to replace the Dutchman. He is 16-5 in his career and is already set to fight at UFC 146 against former UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez. Mir has won three in a row, including a knockout win against Mirko Filipovic, a unanimous decision win against Roy Nelson and a technical submission victory against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Already set to fight on the card, Mir's training is right where it should be and having been the champion before, I don't think potentially fighting in five rounds would be a problem.

Cain Velasquez

Since Dos Santos defeated Velasquez to win the heavyweight title at UFC on FOX 1 last November, neither fighter has stepped into the Octagon. Some fans have been calling for a rematch for Velasquez considering the Overeem news, but I don't see the point. Dos Santos dominated Velasquez in their title fight and despite the layoff, would likely do it again.
