Broncos Should Keep Tebow If They Sign Manning: A Fan's Opinion - Yahoo! Sports

Is Tim Tebow worth trading away if the Denver Broncos were to sign Peyton Manning?

Apparently so according to a recent USA Today article, which stated that the Broncos "would likely trade Tebow" if they were able to sign Peyton Manning. The Jacksonville Jaguars are also supposedly interested in acquiring Tebow as well to coincide with the article, but it still doesn't make very much sense in my view for the team to consider doing that. What follows are my reasons why.

Performance

Why would the Broncos give up on Tebow after all of the time and effort they have invested in him to this point? He has shown time and time again that he is willing to do whatever it takes to become an accomplished quarterback in the NFL, even though he wasn't so good at passing (less than 50% completions) in 2011. With Tebow under center the Broncos went from 1-4 to an AFC West title, going 7-4 over the final 11 games of the season. Granted, it is a team sport and the defense played well for the Broncos in 2011, but Tim Tebow was a part of that team and should get at least some credit for what they were able to accomplish.

Guidance

It would present a perfect scenario for Tebow first and foremost. At most Peyton Manning only has a handful of years left in the league, if not sooner when he gets hit in the chin a few times. The Denver Broncos could sign Manning to a two year deal, which benefits Tebow because not only will he be able to continue developing as a quarterback, but he will be doing so in the shadow of Peyton Manning, one of the class players of the NFL today. It could be somewhat similar to what happened with the Green Bay Packers a while back with Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre. Granted, Rodgers was a better quarterback coming out of college than Tebow, but what is to say that Tim couldn't do the same thing spending a couple years on the sidelines behind the likes of Peyton Manning?
