CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami junior guard Durand Scott must sit out a total of six games before returning to action, including the Hurricanes' National Invitation Tournament game against Valparaiso on Wednesday night, the NCAA said.
The ruling, announced hours before tipoff, came after Scott was declared ineligible last week for receiving impermissible benefits. Scott, Miami's leading scorer, also missed Friday's loss to Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
Scott must pay to charity the value of the received benefits, which took place before the arrival of the current coaching staff, the school said.
Hurricanes center Reggie Johnson was reinstated two weeks ago after an investigation revealed members of his family accepted impermissible travel benefits from a member of the school's former coaching staff. Johnson sat out one game.
The school and NCAA have worked together since last year investigating the Hurricanes' compliance practices. The investigation began in the wake of claims made by former booster Nevin Shapiro, a convicted Ponzi scheme architect serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison.
