Three Free Agent Linebackers that Fit With Eagles: A Fan's Look - Yahoo! Sports

The official NFL offseason begins on Tuesday, March 13. The Philadelphia Eagles figure to make some moves in an effort to make up for a terrible 2011 season. After a barrage of big signings in 2011, I am not expecting the same kind of impact in 2012. Of course, there will be some big moves. The biggest position of need is probably linebacker. The Eagles will likely address that in the draft but there are some free agents out there that they should explore. Here are some of the best free agent linebackers that could help the Eagles in 2012.

Stephen Tulloch - Detroit Lions

The Eagles have had a gaping hole at middle linebacker for a long time. Signing Tulloch would be a good move in terms of solving that problem. He is just 27 years old but has proven himself as a guy that can help stop the run and pass. Tulloch has been among the best tacklers in the NFL and also can generate sacks and turnovers. If the price is right the Eagles might decide to take a chance on him. He would definitely be an upgrade.

Curtis Lofton - Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are likely to lose Lofton, a versatile linebacker that normally plays in the middle. He is 25 years old and has excellent leadership qualities. Lofton could easily integrate himself into the Philadelphia system. As is the case with Tulloch, the price would have to be right for the Eagles to sign him. With his agent and tackling ability, Lofton could be a little too pricey for the Eagles. Still, they should at least look at him.

London Fletcher - Washington Redskins

At 36 years old, Fletcher is far away from the typical age that the Eagles accept in terms of a free agent. However, signing him to a short deal would be a smart move. First, the guy can still play. He had 96 tackles in 2011 and can play at any linebacker position. Second, he is the kind of veteran player that the defense needs. He could be a valuable leader for this team while still contributing. He's not a long term answer but few free agents can help the Eagles more than he can in 2012.
