Female snowboarders will want to clear their calendars for March 17, 2012. There is a great girl's-only slopestyle and rail jam snowboarding contest taking place in New Hampshire.
Here are the details:
About the Event
The event is part of the Billabong Flaunt It Series and it's set to take place in Waterville, N.H. It is the sixth event in a seven-event series that started in January at Blue Mountain in Ontario. The Waterville stop is considered a Ticket to Ride (TTR) 3-star event. The stop will include a slopestyle competition and a rail jam event, as well as awards for best trick and best style. The day's events will kick off with an 8 a.m. registration followed by a 10 a.m. rider's meeting and warm-up session. The actual competitions are expected to get underway at 11 a.m. and run through 2:15 p.m. A 3 p.m. Awards Ceremony will follow. Those that are interested in participating will need to register through the event's website.
Space is limited, so I wouldn't wait too much longer to register. The registration fee is $30.
What's Up for Grabs?
The winner of the March 17 event in Waterville will receive part of a $2,000 prize purse and a chance to compete in the Billabong Flaunt It Finals on March 31. The Billabong Flaunt It Finals is considered a 4-star TTR event and sports a whopping $10,000 prize purse.
About the Competitors
Some of the ladies expected to compete in the finals are Breanna Strangeland and Tara Hickey. Strangeland won first place in slopestyle at the Quebec stop, and Hickey won first place in slopestyle at the British Columbia stop. Both of the ladies were phenomenal. Strangeland unleashed a barrage of spectacular moves, including a wicked backside 540. Hickey pulled off a few stunners of her own, like a mind-numbing frontside 540 Rodeo.
Other slopestyle savants headed to the finals are Stephanie Haines, Christy Prior and Samm Denena. Fans should keep a close eye on Prior and Denena at the finals. Each of them dominated their respective stops, winning both the slopestyle and the rail jam. Speaking of rail jam winners, they were just a fierce as the slopestyle winners. Jenn Cusick's frontside 180 tail press at the Quebec stop was a thing of beauty. One of these ladies will undoubtedly be leaving the final a lot richer. Given the talent that the series has attracted thus far, I suspect that it is going to be one exciting event.
