While Troy Aikman said last week that he believed that Tony Romo was a better overall quarterback than he was in his career, there is another former member of the Dallas Cowboy who does not believe that. Norv Turner, the offensive coordinator during Aikman's time leading the Cowboys, said there is no way that Romo is better than Aikman. Turner pointed to fourth quarter numbers and the ability to play well in the playoffs.

What makes Turner's comments nice is that he is not just saying that Romo is not as good as Aikman was. Turner said there are only three or four guys in the history of the NFL that are better than Aikman.
Turner went on to say that he thinks Tony Romo is a great player but there is barely anybody he would rank above Aikman at all. Looking at his stats, that makes sense.
Aikman won three Super Bowls in four years leading the Cowboys. His playoff numbers are some of the best in NFL history, his record over his playoff career sitting at 11-4. Aikman was the 1992 Super Bowl MVP and was a Pro Bowl selection for six consecutive seasons.
Aikman ended his career as the Cowboys' leading passer with 33,942 yards. He won 90 games in the '90s, the most of any quarterback in a single decade until Peyton Manning surpassed him in the next decade.
Romo is 1-3 in playoff appearances, his only win a Wild Card victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He has been to three Pro Bowls and his current quarterback rating of 96.9 ranks second all-time in NFL history. Individually, his net yards per pass attempt (7.30) ranks as the best in NFL history. He has also orchestrated 13 come-from-behind victories in his career, including four in 2011 alone. When it comes to winning late, Romo is becoming a positive factor in Dallas.
Tony Romo has a long way to go to come close to accomplishing what Aikman did. What Aikman meant when he said that Romo was better than him was that technically Romo has more skills and abilities. That also means the sky is the limit for what Romo can accomplish. However, as an all-around quarterback, based solely on success, there are few better than Troy Aikman.
